"The Things I Leave Behind", The solo exhibition of Darico Hasaya.
An immigrant from Russia who found a home, love, and a second chance for life in Istanbul.
"I was in Istanbul for an art project when the war in Ukraine started. The morning I found out that Russia had invaded Ukraine, I decided not to return to Moscow. Since then, I've felt like I'm living in a completely different reality where everything is changing rapidly in the most unpredictable ways.
In Istanbul, everyone was struggling around me — both locals and immigrants. We survived by being there for each other, spending hours talking, smoking, crying, and laughing. We reinvented art as a coping mechanism, gathering at the table to paint together, create collages, and make jewelry. Art always made us a bit happier.
Now, my journey continues as I'm moving to London. It's very emotional for me to leave Istanbul and my life here. It's important for me to have my first solo exhibition here, where I can gather all my Istanbul artworks and all my friends to share a comforting time together."
