About the event

Exhibition Title: “Unrolled”

“Unrolled” explores how time, space, and memory unfold and reshape our perceptions, connections, and experiences. Through scrolls, copper-wire installations, photography, and sculpture, the exhibition reflects on personal transformation and the interplay between universal elements and Turkish culture.

At the center of the exhibition are two large scrolls of transparent paper. “Unrolled Together”, created with my daughter, invites viewers to interact by unrolling sections to reveal layers of color and narrative, symbolizing shared experiences and evolving memories. “Unrolled”, the second scroll, offers a more solitary reflection on how our personal perceptions deepen over time.

Complementing the scrolls is “Do You Feel the Warmth”, an installation made from hand-braided copper wire, interwoven with photographs from Istanbul, Antalya, Pamukkale, and Cappadocia, alongside familiar objects such as plastic water bottles, cezves (Turkish coffee pots), and handmade Turkish lamps created with my daughter. Copper, a conductor of warmth and energy, symbolizes the connections between people, places, and memories, bridging the universal and the personal.

The exhibition also includes “Have We Met?”, a series of 77 street cat portraits. Revered in Turkish culture for their resilience, these cats serve as metaphors for adaptation, survival, and our evolving relationships with place and memory. They challenge viewers to consider if we have crossed paths before, offering a fresh perspective on connection.

“Unrolled” invites viewers to reflect on how distance and time shape the stories we carry, finding warmth and meaning in the process of unrolling and reconstructing our memories.
