Yasser Safi
Biography:
Yaser Safi, born in 1976 Al-Qamishli, Syria, has been residing and working in Berlin since 2017. He earned a Postgraduate
Diploma in Printmaking from the College of Fine Arts in Damascus in 1999. Safi's artworks have been exhibited in solo and
group exhibitions, as well as biennials, across the Middle East, Europe, and the USA. He was a lecturer at the Printmaking
Department of the College of Fine Arts and the Adham Ismail Institute of Art in Damascus from 1999 to 2006. Additionally, he
supervised the Printmaking Department at the Sharjah Institute of Art in the UAE from 2006 to 2009. Safi was involved as a
lecturer in a cultural exchange project between the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig, Germany, and Tripoli University in
Lebanon in 2010.
His artistic practices vary between printing, drawing, and sculpture, focusing on daily life and the marginal. Parody and
sarcasm have always been powerful tools in Yaser’s artistic language, which has developed over the years and become a
means of social and political protest.
